January 01, 1970    PLMun Comm

Anchored with the vision of becoming a dynamic and highly competitive Higher Education Institution (HEI) and with the mission to provide quality, affordable and relevant education, the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa (PLMun) through the Institute of Integrated Development Education (IIDE) conducted a Curriculum Conference last 26 April 2022, on the 3rd floor of the Research and Learning Resource Center (RLRC).

With the theme, “Revitalizing Higher Education in the Post-pandemic Era” the Curriculum Conference highlighted the special messages and lecturesof highly esteemed Keynote Speakers from different institutions and organizations. It also included the presentation of new program offerings that the University will offer in the future. The Management Committee Officials, College Deans, Department Chairs, Directors, and faculty members from all Colleges actively participated the conference.

The Keynote Speakers were composed of Ms. Sonia Roco, the Chair and President of Raul Roco Foundation, Inc, an Educator and Artist, Dr. Benjamin Tolosa, Jr, the Dean for Core Curriculum, and Political Science Professor of the Ateneo de Manila University, and Dr. Clarita Carlos, Political Science Professor from the University of the Philippines Diliman.

The Speakers emphasized the major role of faculty members/academicians in providing quality and topnotch education to the students. There is a constant call for excellent and relevant teaching that will cater the needs of 21st century learners. Dr. Clarita Carlos particularly highlighted that faculty members must be able to discipline the students to be wide readers and allow them to analyze and conceptualize answers independently. To be relevant in the present age, Dr. Carlos urged everyone to think and act as citizens of the world, not just limited to one’s own nationality but to be open for opportunities and possibilities in a larger scale.

The last part of the conference was dedicated to the presentation of selected faculty members on the proposed new program offerings in the University, as follows:

1. CCJ Expanding Horizon: The Birth of National Center for Criminological Research (Assoc. Prof. Antonio D. Flores, Jr.)

2. Sustaining Educational Innovations: Establishment of Muntinlupa Teachers Academy (Dr. Nikko Lawsin)

3. Reinventing the Implementation of NSTP(Dir. Arlanie Segura)

4. Redefining the Role of Physical Education in Delivering Relevant Curriculum (Dr. Fe Menciano)

5. Medical Allied Courses (Asst. Prof. Ruby Myra Lacro)

6. BS Social Work (Dr. Edsel Umali)

After each presentation, Dr. Carlos and Dr. Arcega shared their comments, recommendations, and suggestions on the proposed programs. Notable guests from the City Government of Muntinlupa and representatives from concerned departments also had the chance to share their insights and queries. Due to time constraints, other proposed programs will be presented and discussed on the next University Council meetings.
