Forging Global Academic Ties: 1st ALCU Philippines Global Engagement Forum with AIU-Bangladesh

The 1st ALCU Philippines Global Engagement Forum took place at the Colegio De Muntinlupa on 23 July 2024, amidst torrential rains brought by a typhoon. Despite the challenging weather, the forum saw robust participation from 20 local colleges and universities across the country, including Calaca City Global College, City College of Calamba, City College of San Fernando, City College of San Jose Del Monte, City University of Pasay, Colegio De Muntinlupa, Diliman College, Gordon College, La Carlota City College, Laguna University, Marikina Polytechnic College, Navotas Polytechnic College, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng San Pablo, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasig, Paranaque City College, Pateros Technological College, Quezon City University, Taguig City University, and Universidad De Manila.
The forum was graced by the City Mayor Rozzano Rufino Biazon, who attended despite an announcement of class and work suspension due to the inclement weather. As Chairman of the Board of the local college and university of the City Government, CDM & PLMun, the Mayor delivered a notable message, underscoring the importance of global engagement and collaboration in higher education.
The statement of purpose for the forum was delivered by the University President of the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa, Dr. Raymundo P. Arcega, C.E.E. In his address, Dr. Arcega highlighted the significance of international partnerships in advancing academic excellence and cultural exchange. His message set the tone for a day of insightful discussions and networking opportunities.
A significant highlight of the forum was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), participated in by representatives of the local colleges and universities present. This MOU marks a formal commitment to ongoing collaboration and shared initiatives in the academic and research fields, further solidifying the bonds between these institutions.
Adding a global dimension to the event, officials and guests from the American International University - Bangladesh were present. The delegation included Dr. Carmen Lamagna, Member of the AIUB Board of Trustees, Prof. Dr. Abdur Rahman, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Manzur Khan, Proctor and Director of the Office of Students Affairs, Dr. Saniat Rahman Zishan, Director of the Faculty of Engineering, and Mr. Chowdhury Akram Hossain, Head of Computer Engineering.
A comprehensive overview of AIUB, detailing its profile, various academic departments, research engagements, international partnerships and linkages, and accreditations was presented by their head of Computer Engineering. His presentation provided valuable insights into AIUB's contributions to global education and its active role in promoting international collaborations.
The 1st ALCU Philippines Global Engagement Forum demonstrated the resilience and dedication of its participants which laid a strong foundation for future international collaborations, setting a precedent for similar events in the years to come.
