In response to the CHED Memo Order No. 52, S. 2016, HEIs, such as the PLMun, must become a platform for research and development, innovation, and extension, in pursuit of inclusive social and economic development. It further added that extension programs must provide space to discover practical, and science-based answers that can address real-world social, economic, and environmental challenges or partner citizens and communities.

It is in this light that the Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension, Quality Assurance, Linkages, and International Affairs (OVPREQALIA) conducted the 2nd Research Capability Workshop 2022, with the theme, "Towards a Sustainable Research Culture & Community Extension Initiatives". 

The workshop explored the development of qualitative and quantitative research as well as the creation of comprehensive and sustainable university extension programs through morning and afternoon Plenary Sessions. Dr. Edsel R. Umali, VP for REQALIA delivered the welcome remarks while Coun. Jedidiah R. Presnedi delivered an inspirational message for all participants.

The morning session features Dr. Jaypee Magcamit Limueco, a Special Science Teacher from the Philippine Science High School - Central Luzon Campus. He discussed research concepts focusing on the usage of qualitative and quantitative methods. While the Second Plenary Discussion featured the talk of Ms. Fe Dullavin on Developing a Research-Based Community Extension Program and Asst. Prof. Sannie Jusay on Sustaining Community Extension Program: Processes, Challenges, & Opportunities. 

Another event highlight is the awarding ceremony for the 1st Gawad SIKLAB and the Research Presentations of winners.
