Students' Meet-Up with Atty. Benjamin C. Abalos, Jr.

Today, October 14, 2024, the Soroptimist International of Alabang (SIA) Hall was filled with excitement as students gathered for an engaging meet-up with Atty. Benjamin C. Abalos, Jr. the former Secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government. The event, hosted by Dr. Fermae L. Tamayao, Dean of Institute Integrated Development Education,  inspired and informed students about leadership, public service, and the importance of civic engagement.

The program commenced with an invocation led by Mx. Prince Kyler Sidayon, Deputy Student Regent of the University Student Council, setting a respectful and reflective tone for the gathering. Following the invocation, Dr. Danilo B. Solayao delivered the welcoming remarks, emphasizing the significance of fostering connections between students and influential figures in public service.

Dr. Raymundo P. Arcega, CESE, the University President, introduced Atty. Abalos, highlighting his extensive career and notable contributions to public safety, peace, and order. During his address, Atty. Abalos shared his accomplishments while serving as DILG Secretary, emphasizing the impact of his initiatives on public safety and academic development. He encouraged students to take an active role in their communities, reinforcing the importance of leadership and civic responsibility.

The event also featured a presentation of participants, particularly the Student Councils, led by the Vice President of Student Life and Development. This was followed by an interactive student forum, where attendees engaged Atty. Abalos in a lively question-and-answer session. 

As a token of appreciation, a plaque was presented to Atty. Abalos, recognizing his dedication and contributions to the community. The event concluded with closing remarks by Dr. Marites D. Tagulao, who expressed gratitude to Atty. Abalos for his insights and to all attendees for their participation.

The meet-up not only provided students with valuable knowledge and inspiration but also reinforced the importance of collaboration between educational institutions and public service leaders. Through events like this, PLMUN continues to nurture the next generation of leaders dedicated to making a positive impact in society.
