1st Philippine Chinese Academe and Industry Network (PCAIN) Convention
The PLMun Management Committee attended the 1st Philippine Chinese Academe and Industry Network (PCAIN) Convention via Zoom Video Communications on 25 November 2021.
Dr. Peter P. Laurel, Chairman, PCAIN delivered the welcome address. For the Keynote Address, His Excellency Jose Santiago Sta. Romana, Philippine Ambassador to China, discussed the challenges and prospects of the bilateral relationship between the Philippines and China, and its impact on Academe and Industry. He also shared the struggles of students and universities amidst the pandemic.
For the Plenary Sessions, Dr. Shawn Chen the Chairman of SIAS University in China shared the Collaborative Opportunities in Education with China. He shared that as of the moment, China has around 2,738 Colleges and Universities, with SIAS University having 38,000 students. He shared the possibility of partnering with Universities from other countries and offering courses in China.
Next, Dr. Francis Chua, the Founding Chairman of the International Chamber of Commerce Philippines (ICCP) shared the Business Opportunities for the Chinese in the Philippines. He noted that the top areas of investment in the country are in Real Estate, E-commerce, Manufacturing, Construction, Marine, among others.
The Convention also highlighted the Research Presentation of PCAIN members, Dr. Melva Diamante, Dr. Genevieve Ledesma, Dr. Jocelyn Tizon, Dr. Lerma Calingasan, and Dr. Francis Ashipaoloye on the Factors that Contribute to the Development of Chinese and Filipino Students’ Attributes. They shared a comparative analysis of the results of the study based on the attributes of students.
In closing, the PLMun University President and PCAIN President, Dr. Raymund P. Arcega, thanked and acknowledge the organizers and participants of the convention. He shared the goals and vision of PCAIN, specifically the partnerships between the Philippines and China, one of which is to usher educational institutions into academic excellence and efficient performance. He is also looking forward to more partnerships and improvements in the near future.
